Do yourself the favor... and install (temporarily in the return line) a GM PF883 filter (it's like, $8) before you run any pump the first time. This will take all particulate matter out of the fluid before it is put to real use.
After running it for the first time, say 30 minutes... remove the PF883, install your permanent return line and filtration system... and don't look back.
I figured this out during the days of the Corvette Challenge Series (early 90's)... as we used to see steering rack failures from particulate matter and over heating... as the tend to coincide.
The KRC, PSC and SPIN units have also yielded the best results for me as well.
Furthermore, only use a quality fluid... along the lines of extreme racing lubricants, RedLine (my baseline default as you can get it ANYWHERE) or Royal Purple.
