Well lots of reasons. Turbo, EFI, watercooled, price, Flat 4 design, Easy to adapt due to large usage in sand rail market.

Subbie engine are like the LS engines for the VW world.

I think I might put a Subaru engine in this little cream puff I bought earlier this year. Not AWD, but maybe a sequential 5 speed.
