I always preferred a solid color for my 67 RS Camaro, but it is based on that person's tastes. A friend of mine painted his 69 Cutlass a two tone (in early 1990's) that looked rather cool. If you remember the Bereta Green color of the 1990 pace car. Here is the wiki on it

His Cutlass was painted that color, with a black vinyl top, and the top of the 442 hood was painted gloss black. The bumpers were flush with the body, but it did well in all the shows. So, it depends on the car and how it is done.
