My post attempted to point out that CNN (and others if anybody really wants to look) had some recent polling data that showed a majority of Americans do indeed want some form of gun control legislation.

I think there's a majority that wouldn't object to background checks on all sales, private or dealer. So in that case, a majority probably would want some revisions. But I've never seen a large poll showing the majority of Americans want gun restrictions or banning, except for criminals.
