I spec out connectors at work for a living. Sometimes I can spend 8+ hours on one connector. Then it turns out the connector is made to order in Switzerland and has a 16 week lead time. My customer does not want to use a huge off the self AMP connector from McMaster or Digikey, but they want their machine in 3 weeks. I end up making cables twice for 4 times the cost.
Trick connectors are sweet if you have the volume and can wait for special order items. Crimping tools can add up quick too. Basic Molex = $50, Nice Molex = $200-500, Special Lemo = $600+
I don't blame anyone for not giving out p/n's.
