You might be able to change the bellhousing out to use a normal style clutch but the factory LT1 bellhousing only works with a LT1 style pull clutch because the bellhousing itself holds the hydraulic slave.

Check with quicktime on the bellhousing. They do a lot of conversion bell housings.

Don't let any of this stop you though. Putting an LT1 T56 behind a Gen I SBC is a great idea. The trans is strong and will only get stronger from a rebuild.
