Also I highly recommend grit guards in the bottom of the buckets to keep from dipping your brush back into the sand you just rinsed off it. Buckets and the guards are cheap - no reason to not have 2 of them.
To go one step further - purchase yourself a foam cannon.

BINGO! Well said Barrrf. There is a whole correct method to washing your car. An excellent video(s) on youtube by this dude called junkman. Guy is awesome and very detailed in his explanations.
And,.....I'm one of "those" that spends a good amount of money on detail/polish/making the vehicle look nice products! It gets costly indeed. lol
