Here's the reality... you can have a handful of days each year in the 110+ range, and then at least that many in the sub-zero range. Makes life pretty interesting.
I know you're near KC now (lived there too) and the weather swings there aren't that much worse IMO. I don't miss that humidity one bit!
The Black Hills area is just amazing and underrated.

Thank's Doug.We just spent a week up there.And it was Beauitful.We ran the AC during the day85 degrees/and opened the windows at night60 degrees.I love'd smelling the pine trees as we rode thur the back roads.Life seemed to be at slower pace for folks up there.

It gets colder than poop here also.
