I worked at a shop that built cup engines back in the mid 90's, and we were removing as much as 30 lbs from small block Chevys. I personally never witnessed any negatives, other than cost. It was triple this cost 20 years ago.
I'd ask for references, and then follow up on them, asking specific questions.
Aside from the weight loss, you end up with a super trick looking block.

My Chevelle is old school... It has a belt driven power steering pump.
They're 17's, but I keep em clean!
