Congratulations. You build what looks like a very trackable motor there.
A rheostat is a resistor used to adjust voltage. It does it in a linear, progressive and smooth fashion. Predictable and controllable power delivery is what you have there just like a Rheostat adjusting the speed of an electric motor.
