I'm building a similar setup. Turbos like engine load.
My tire is a 325/50/15 MT Street Drag Radial (28" tall approx), 3.25 gears, T56 Magnum 6speed. My overdrive is taller than yours so my RPMs will be a bit lower in top gear on the highway. If the cam isn't big it won't surge/buck at cruise.
You don't need a big cam to make power with a turbo. Spend the extra money and get a quality turbo that is properly matched for your engine size and desired power.
You should put in a shift kit which also improves the oiling on the 4L80E. TransGo makes one that most people run on budget setups.
I'm running a baby 225/223 .570" lift cam in my 5.3 setup. On low boost of around 5-7psi it should make 500rwhp. On kill I'm hoping for a few hundred more. My GTS76 billet compressor wheel ball bearing turbo is rated at 1250hp (flywheel). Spool should be good as my engine is around 10:1 compression.
There is a guy (Stock48 on LS1tech) running a 6.0 stock shortblock, 215/215 cam, home ported 317 heads with dual springs, stock truck intake/TB, a quality single turbo and powerglide that went 8.30's@160mph+ at 3,000ft DA in a street car Nova. The car is 3300lbs or so.
Brian Tooley was the chief cylinder head/cam guru at TEA (Total Engine Airflow) and now runs his own company doing valvetrain stuff (springs/cams etc). He can custom grind you a cam for $400. Brian Tooley Racing.
