Personally I like the dark titanium/steel gray colors but if you do it, go all out as Steve suggested.
And screw it, black chrome the whole wheel. A local guy here has a steel gray viper acr with black stripes and black chrome wheels, it looks absolutely evil.
If you want to really stand out go bold on the color. I personally think a 1st gen done in the lambo powder blue (it's like a baby blue) with a titanium gray interior and wheels would be off the hook.
The car will have to be 200% over the top to pull it off, but done right it would be amazing.
