yeh, i know what tight is,the new hemi is wide like the old hemi, but down lower. squeezing one into a 64 dart works but is real tight. i have to go with a 2 bolt master (to clear the coil pack), move the steering column over to clear the corner of the driverside valve cover, and ill have to notch the passengerside firewall out to make taking off the other valve cover easier (otherwise ill have to jack the engine up if i want to take off the valve cover). all worth it in my eyes. alot of guys go with big block darts and for my year dart they have to use fenderwell headers , which only look good on drag cars. also i wanted a light nimble car, so a big block up front wasnt the way i wanted to go. the new hemis only wiegh 10-15 lbs more then the slant six that i took out, and with the 5.7 and headers you can get 400hp and the 6.1 with headers would be somewhere a around 465hp, plenty hp for my 64 convertible. the other tight spot for the new hemis in small mopars is the alternator. on the car hemis (which are different up front then the truck hemis) the alternator is mounted low, so ill most likely have to notch the flat flange by the frame to get it to fit, wont know for sure until i get one in the car, im only going by pics a guy sent me of his 67 cuda. im also going with a front end unit from RMS which gives me more room for headers, rack n pinion and coil overs. without the torsion bars and steering box, headers will be a little easier.
i guess the Ford guys can do the GT500 thing and put the blown 5.4 setup into a 60s cobra clone. thatd be different (for now)
