I feel bad for all the customers involved. My 78 has a TKO 600-.64 from APT.

APT ultimately delivered on everything they promised, although they were quite slow. Start to finish was between 3 and 6 months. The kit was not totally complete (no sheet metal for converting my auto for a manual which was required as my year car has a different floor pan) and not much by way of instructions on wiring up a neutral safety switch (I worked that up from other people's projects).

Overall though, I'm happy. Decent price for the kit, everything bolted up well and the car was driving great once all was said and done.

I did have a problem with the bellhousing not having a square mating flange (can't remember how warped it was, but it was 0.010" +/- .002 on the block-bell flange). A skilled machinist buddy cleaned it up on a mill for me.

If I had to do it all over again, I would consider ordering from APT again but I'd plan on it taking some time. I got some promises that things would be done by a certain time period and started my build - then held up my friend's home garage when parts didn't arrive (lesson learned).

But honestly, I'd skip the TKO entirely and go with a T56. The 2-3 shift thing is garbage, mine will act up if I'm just barely getting into it and my current engine is not a high RPM screamer by any stretch. Since I already have the TKO, I'll have one of the guys who do the upgrades upgrade it, but I'd definitely recommend having it done first if you already have a TKO or are pretty serious about getting one. Again, if you haven't put the $$ out for one, and you can fit it, get a T56. Bypass all the arguments about whether to do a .82 or .64 O/D and have both, especially if you get one of the trans with the more aggressive ratios (GTO).

dhutton - good luck and I hope you get your $1k back.
