Thanks Scott. That is a good point and a very good possibility. The stainless I'm thinking about using (which I already have), is .060. So fairly thick and should be resilent. I have been thinking of something different though and powerdercoat black so it just goes away vs. seeing stainless mesh. Maybe just use perforated metal and be done. We'll see.
