well, at first i really wanted to go 6.1 and make my car some wild crazy ride. with headers and a comp cam the 6.1 puts out some real nice horsies, but everyone started thinking i was nuts when i told them i wouldnt ugly up my convertible with a roll bar. i guess i could drive it slow, but...... Anyway as of late im thinking 5.7 will be fine for what i want. the only thing im not crazy about the 5.7 is the truck hemis boxy intake or the car hemis plane black plastic intake. the 6.1 has the nicer looking intake in my opinion, i also like XVs intake. sense your doing an E-body youll have plenty of room in the engine bay, but with me, if i use the car hemi (throttle body out front 6.1 or 5.7) ill have to notch out the flat flang that hangs off the frame/radiator support, because the altenator hangs real low aswell as the A/C. if i use the truck hemi the altenator and A/c are mounted high, which requires no notching, although the A/c might be close. i dont believe youll have to notch anything on an E-body if you use the car hemi. one thing youll have to do is use the truck hemis oil pan, its sump is in the rear which works out good if your using the alterktion, if your using a stock K frame youll have to get a center sump pan. i dont know enough about the XV stuff. TTI already makes some real nice headers for the new hemis. as youve probably read on Bills site, he makes new hemi motor mounts. i ordered them with my alterktion along with a flaming river steering column and 9 bolt adaptor for my Moto Lita steering wheel. Street and Performance has alot of great info on new hemi swaps aswell. things are abit more tight for A-bodies but youll have plenty of room in your E. in the pics below is a 5.7 truck hemi in the engine bay of an early A-body (dart,valiant,63-66). as you can see i have to switch from 4 bolt to 2 bolt master. bill also has a column offset plate that moves the column over abit. as you can see in the pic without it moved over its too close. also for my year car the passengerside is real close to the fenderwell. Bill recommend i notch that area out abit or ill have to raise the engine to remove the valve cover. again, real close in my car, but plenty of room in your Cuda. the pic with blue alterktion frame is a truck hemi in a 68 barracuda, you can see how the pan clears the frame (this guy made his oun motor mounts). also the pic of the hemi engine is the truck 5.7 hemi, its the odd shape box on top that im not too crazy about, although its not horrible looking.
