His builds have taste and quality, and the Fairlane and Mustang really rode their respective themes out perfectly. Both were unique with a lot of the details we all love, but the uniqueness was completely baked into the overall theme of the vehicle. I mean in this jaded era of twin turbos, and LS-everything - sure we've seen vintage style builds with a Ford SOHC before, but the dual split carbs are just the little touch that's like "whoa, I haven't seen that done before". The torsion bar suspension is a bit gratuitous, but it beats leaf springs, and a regular control arm/coil spring might not have fit the theme as well. The wheels are perfect. Maybe my favorite car of the show, although I still have a place in my heart for the totally crazy stuff like the RS 2nd gen track car.
I really like Double Down as well, but those headers need a metallic finish or even just raw heat cycled stainless look to fit the car. But that wouldn't do much for Jet-Hot the sponsor LOL !

I have only had one run in with Steve and it was 14 years ago when he had the "Challenger X" on teh Hot Rod Power tour. Me and my freind were high school kids and he set and talked cars with us for an hour. He gave us a personal tour of the car explaining how he had a jeweler cut the emblems for the car and so on. A stand up guy.
