Interesting and good insight. Having been involved in sponsorships of many kinds - including high level racing... The money is always questioned... what is the goal - what's the ROI if any - but for many it just comes down to "we have the money and we like racing". Super easy decision when the money is rolling in faster than it's rolling out... but it's a far harder check to write when the sponsoring company is also hemorrhaging cash. Then it becomes a question of are your board of directors and bankers also into racing. LOL
