Ford Racing exhaust cams seem to be fairly popular on the Boss motors, and they do keep the variable valve timing. I talked to Stacy at DSE about the Aluminator XS (which is essentially a Boss 302 engine with 11.5:1 compression, exhaust cams and the Cobra Jet manifold) that they swapped into her FR500S and she said it had much better mid range power than the Roush Yates Boss 302 engine in the '66 Test Car, which has custom ground cams.
