I went the other other route...had a quadrajet built and kept my 383 SBC carb fed...
I just couldn't see spending the $3,000 it was going to take to EFI my 383 the right way when I could go with an LS for about the same money. And I didn't want to change everything else just to go LS (headers, trans, accessories, fuel system).
