Yes a 285 will fit on there.
a 16x7 wheel is actually 8 inches wide.
With 5" BS this means you have 3" FS (front spacing)
on a 17x9 wheel, that's 10" wide.
with a 5.125" BS, that's 4.875" FS.
The Front Spacing is a determining factor of how far the [new] wheel will stick out compared to your current wheel.
So the question is, if you put a 1.875" spacer on your current wheel, do you think you'll have issues? Of course the tire won't be bulged out as much so be aware of that too.
