Default Need advise

Please excuse me if this sounds confusing

Hi I took the LS adapter for the Mac's Pivot leveler and test spaced it out far enough to have it clear the coil mounts on my LSA valve covers.
It took 9/16" to give me a little less than a quarter of an inch clearance.
My question is can I make 9/16 or 5/8" thick spacers the same size as the adapter mounting parts that bolts to the exhaust mount and the spreader bar at the top and just bolt through the spacer with longer bolts, or should I fasten them to the LS adapter and spreader with bolts drilled and tapped solid to the motor and spreader of the Mac's or just use longer bolts.
They are 10.9 metric grade LS exhaust bolt size ? I'm worried about them shearing off because they would be 5/8" longer and holding the weight in two places (both sides of the spacers)

I was thinking of making the spacers and drilling through the spacer then drill and tap the Adapter and the spreader and blind bolt the spacers to them to make them like part of them and bolting it up as normal?
Can I make the spacers out of aluminum?

I don't have the extra pieces that lengthen the adapter on mine like this picture from 48 hour Corvette.

I have a head ache after trying to word this so not to sound like I'm going in circles.
