On my 83 Malibu (wagon, with lowering springs) I got 18x9 w/4.5BS on the rear w/275-40-18 tires. clearance to the frame is just 'bout 1/4" and I had to roll the fender lips. You can probably go with a wider wheel, but in my opinion any wider tire would be a problem (unless you completely cut out the lip, then maybe you can get a 285). This is without a notch though.

On the front (bell tech 2" droped spindles) I went 17x7 w/4"BS (max with the droped spindles) and 245-45-17 tires. This rubs the inner fender well even when tapping the brakes, and can hardly turn the wheel. So I say this setup is definatley a no go. A 5"BS should be OK, but it wouldnt work with the dropped spindles.

Do youself a favor, and dont take anyone elses measrements as a guarantee. Measure your own setup.
