Canada used to be my territory when I was the distributor for Brown Jordan and Grosfillex and Ducane Gas Grills etc. I was making a sales call on my Vancouver customer and of course - had to stop at the border (this is like 1973 or 74). I had maybe 25 catalogs and a cheap parasol in the trunk - which I stated when asked if I had anything. I said that I had this stuff and that they were of "no commercial value". I was then asked to pull over and go inside. The officer there wanted about 3 pages of forms filled out - and $108 for duty and taxes. To which I said... "listen... I'm not leaving any of this in Canada...I'm happy to stop on my way out and show you personally these same goods. I'm simply making a sales call. I'll stay overnight in an expensive hotel room - I'll eat dinner and breakfast. OR - I can turn around now - get a room on the US side to store this stuff - which means I'll come back and stay there tonight and eat dinner there as well. The point is that Canada will then get NOTHING. Your call"
I stayed in Blaine (USA) that night. How stupid is that?
