I should have been clearer. I don't think patching the top only to cover it up with the 1/2" thick plate gains you anything compared to just running it as is.

I do believe that replacing that entire section of frame rail like what was linked is the best option.

The passenger side is fine, the driver's side is the one that bothers me, the top inside corner being pitted is the problem as that is where you will perimeter weld the top plate.

I would buy the replacement rail.
