Joe --- YOU can not work under a lift where you have to crouch and then tilt your head back to look up. Don't even bother.
My Brother in Law (Rudy) is about 6'3 or so.... he can't get comfortable working under my full lift lift! It's so awkward for him.
The only solution is to raise the roof --- OR --- dig a pit.
Do a test -- get yourself a sheet of plywood -- nail up some support for it at the height you'd have to work at -- then get under it and see what I'm talking about.
