I bought 3 gallons of oil. I used a welding rod to measure how deep the tank is, marked the rod where the top of the tank was, then measured where 3/4 full of that volume was on the rod. I used an oil primer to prime the motor since it was a new crate motor. You can also pull the coil pack connectors and turn motor over to prime.

Pulling the coil pack connectors only to prime is not a good idea as you are still pulsing fuel. Disconnect power to the ECM then crank until you have oil pressure. Power the ECM and start engine.
