Sometimes reading the negative books can give you new perspective. That happened to me when I read "Coming out of the ice". It's about an American that got trapped in the Soviet Union after going over there to work for Henry Ford. Prison camp after prison camp, starved nearly to death eating rats, frost bite on his toes which they sliced off with no novocaine. He was trapped for nearly 30 years. He finally made it out and died shortly after. He had a stubborn will to live that very few possess.
