The outlet fitting reduces flow, which affects steering feel. You also need to re-shim the pressure valve just behind the fitting.
Modern saginaw pumps don't come with a shimmed valve anymore. The factory screws the "nut" down, - not all the way, - and uses Loctite on the threads to hold it there. You can buy a shim kit and select a shim stack to limit pressure using the chart they supply. The goal here is to protect the rack from excessive pressure. You want around 1100 to 1200 psi.
