One of the great things about Barrett-Jackson events is that they set up "Ride and Drive" tracks where you can take a thrill ride in a new performance car from GM, Ford or Chrysler. If you are so inclined, you can hop out of one new car and try out the next. It's a big time.

What you CAN'T do, however, is sneak out onto the track with some old pickup and tear it up! That's a great big No-No. No can do. Nuh uh. Not gonna happen!

Unless, that is, your name is Bret Voelkel, president of Ridetech. Somehow, Bret managed to sweet talk the Barrett-Jackson people into letting him test drive the 48 Hour 1968 GMC pickup. I'm sure he suggested that he -- Umm -- wanted to make sure that all of the nuts and bolts are tight prior to the sale. ...and to make sure that the new wrap wasn't gonna blow off.

The shakedown was a success. The truck runs great, has phenomenal stopping power and the stereo is excellent. Handling and ride quality from the StreetGRIP suspension system is lighters ahead of the OE parts. Some lucky Barrett-Jackson bidder is going to take home a great truck.

Anyway, some highlight photos from the shakedown are shown below. You can see the entire gallery at:
