Have you done a measurement of the OD of the input shaft and ID of the pilot bearing? Your sure the auto hub for the converter isn't still in the crank?! Have you slid the clutch on the input shaft to verify it slides easily and doesn't bind? For high rev or fast shift applications, before I install a unit, I usually apply a little valve lapping compound on the input spline of the transmission and then work the clutch back and forth to ensure it rides freely with no burs or nicks you can't see. Clean all of the compound off before reassembly.
