thats weird my old 99 TA that was daily driver for years I replaced it when I did clutch - which wasnt worn but pilot bearing was dust, I replaced all and new slave, couple years later it exploded I was able to limp it about a mile to home, was purchased at O'reillys and L/T warranted never an issue since

on a side note I'm not to impressed with the roller pilot bearing as as its going bad it wears the input shaft
I believe the old bronze bushing is the way to go
