BMR Sales post #778 Chevy pickup with car on trailer
Wow, post 778 has something I thought I would never see again.
The name on the back of the camper shell is “Stutz Bearcat”.
My Dad and two Rigdon brothers started the company in Elkhart, IN in late 1970.
The shells were of all aluminum construction unless the customer wanted it lined. The lining was wood paneling.
The shells were either side radius like this one or radius in the front. Some customers liked the side radius as it somewhat followed the shape of the truck cab.
As with many young companies, they struggled with cash flow.
My Grandfather was diagnosed with a brain tumor so my Dad sold his share to the brothers in mid 1971 and we moved back to Alabama to help care for him.
Life goes on and we didn’t maintain contact with the company. We did hear that one brother was running the company and had moved the operation to Florida. That may be why it is on a truck with Florida license plates.
I still have one of the Stutz Bearcat signs like this one put up for a souvenir.
This certainly was a flashback.
Thanks,
Wes
