As I recall, you use the open part of the shoe to finagle it over the flange. A bit like installing a piston ring over the piston. But you can’t twist the shoe of course. It looks impossible until you do it the first time. Once you figure it out, it is a simple process. I realize my explanation is worthless. Hopefully Baer can explain it better than I did.
