Default Oh I have learned so much (( 12-16-23 ))

It's kinda funny as this bring back memories of my old cars from back in the day. I would say we have a problem
here and it has nothing to do with the builder. My guess is it's overfull because the cork gasket is saturated
and it is weeping out.

I learned a little something about the 4L60E transmission today.

Apparently, there is an automotive case and a truck case. The truck case has more capacity thicker walls and even
has a larger filter. This would be why none of the standard transmission pan actually work. It's good to have those
Phone A Friend on speed dial to walk me through some of the learning issue along the way.

The most important thing I learned is that cork gaskets suck, and if the pan is slightly overfilled and it reaches the
gasket it will eventually saturate the cork and will continue to weep out the sides.

Apparently, There is a cork/rubber gasket that works extremely well so I will pick one of those up along with some other stuff.

Let's pray I don't have to use the oil dry.

I removed all but four bolts and lowered them down just a little bit so I can see how much spills out.

I held the pan up tight and once I lowered it just a little it started raining trans fluid. The funny thing is I filled it to
the full level on the lokar dip stick which looks to be about a 1/4 inch to much at this point.

Good news pan is off and no oil dry was used.

This would be the truck filter which does not work with the Holley stock depth oil pan.

Holy crap was this filter a pain in the but to remove.

Here is the comparison

Napa sells a kit that includes a cork/rubber gasket which is supposed to work better.

Temporary Steel pan is on while the Aluminum Holley Pan gets Coated Gloss Black from the guys at Pro-Tek Powder Coating.

And of course I will need to pick up more trans fluid.
