Well it's. It not really a Ford part it's more of a Ford shape if it makes you feel better. It works for me.
Edit, it's not a ford based. The backing base is welded directly to the axle tube.
I am willing to bet it will be available as an option if when you buy a housing, similar to what SpeedTech offers.
