Personally, I think NASCAR has devolved into a overblown spec series, where marketing is far more important than the actual racing...you can draw some serious comparisons between it, and WWE wrestling....both products are what I would call sub-standard (my opinion), but the marketing machine makes it entertaining for the masses. I cannot understand why automakers throw approx. 100 million per season at the France family, for what? There is no parity between what is being raced, and what you can buy in the dealership, not even remotely and the manufacturers are far down the list of important sponsors, although they finance a ton of it. First came the restrictor plates, then same bodies different stickers, and changing the rules so uncompetitive teams can complete, instead of being forced to start from the bottom and work up..right up the the ultimate attrocity, the COT (Car of Tomorrow). I believe all of the normal innovation and engineering you would have seen turn up in the cars for a competitive advantage, is now turning up in illegal activities...it really is a shame, as the manufacturer wars of the 60's and 70's were really cool and drove changes to the products you saw in the showroom. Again, just my opinion.
