This is a topic brought up for discussion ALOT at Team Camaro. Last time I checked it seemed that the general consenses was that they made a difference in ride quality even with connectors. They are VIBRATION dampers. Vibration can occur even with stiffeners-although less frequent and with less intensity. The most prone area seems to be the cowl and front windshield. If you drive on smooth surfaces you probably wouldn't miss them on a stiffened car, but on anything else....... Camaro owners that had cars without them and then install them, state the difference is quite noticable. Personally I would like to remove them for the extra space, but don't dare. If you got them, keep em.
