I just built a 66 LS3/525 with a TKO600 built for a 66/67 Chevelle so the shifter come up in the OEM position. Perfect with my 3.37s. Had to modify tunnel substantially to fit.
Why a a T56 whr the TKO600? 5 speed fits better, cost less and IMO no need for 2 overdrive gears.

As Todd will undoubtedly say “cause it shifts like a dump truck transmission!!”
I’m fine with my TKO but I’m sure the T56-based items DO shift better.
