Default TMCP #477: Ask Rick; Electric Won’t Kill Us (Yet)……The Bright Future of Gas Powered Classics

It is September and time for another “edge of your seat interview” with Rick Schmidt! This is the episode where we finally discuss the topic of whether electric cars will completely kill the classic car hobby. Short answer: they won’t……and least not for a long time.

I asked Rick about the future of classic cars with all electric vehicles coming soon and if he thought gasoline would ever simply “go away.” He said that from an infrastructure standpoint gasoline cannot go away anytime soon. Over the road semis, ships, planes, etc., all of which require the refining of oil to make our products move around the world. Gasoline will be made as a part of that process so older petrol vehicles should still have access to the needed fuel. In regarding to over-the-road trucking (freight), engineers are working on electric means of heavy hauling but have not yet solved the problem. With all of the shipping issues we have now, it would be a huge disruption to force an abandonment of the only fuel known to get the job done.
