Dont know any of that as the car needs to get down here from the US. I just got told it has a gear drive in it and its not the steering pump thats making the sound.

So why would someone use a gear drive instead of a timing chain?

Is that a more race application thing and/or does the Geardrive have any advantages over a traditional chain or is it a cheaper thing with no positives over a chain?

Wait..

All I do know is it is a 351 Cleveland, has a 2500 or 3000rpm stall (not sure) and has more hp than a stock 351hp as its worked, how much? 20-50-100hp more, I do not know.

It was the cool thing to do in the 90's, some are louder than others. Not sure about the benefits/disadvantages.

Here you go.

No timing chain to strectch or break. I had one and liked it. Sort of like a blower whine.

Who is it that looks these cars over for you when you buy them? Asking this type of thing after your check has cleared sounds like a recipe for another car disaster.

I was told about gear drive before the purchase. I just figured I would ask here in more detail about it, as in, how it works, why would someone option for that over a timing chain, does it add more HP (lose less) does the engine work more efficient more consistently or what? As far as the whine, I personally hate sound of supercharger and that WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE sounds kinda annoying. Might be different in person. The agent that looked at it for me is a well respected Aussie whos sent other cars down here before to other people and they were all 100% satisfied as they got exactly what they paid for and wanted. So when car arrives I will let you know my % satisfaction given I have had disasters after disasters and therefor my expectation is now much higher.

That gear drive doesn't sound that loud at all. I heard the Pete Jackson gear drives and it was really loud as compared to that one. Here is a video with a Pete Jackson Gear drive. What is your plans for the car? Do you plan to redo the engine and paint? I never liked a gear drive whine, but I love my LS3 418 with Harrop TVS 2300. I think it has better sound than any gear drive, and supercharger produces lot more power.
