Default Project "Memory Maker" 1968 Camaro

Well... With the 55 in for paint the wife talked me into pulling out the 68 Camaro and make a family project out of it and get it running. So my oldest and I picked it up and brought it home. She ain't the purdiest thang, but she is solid. All original paint, minus the addition of the SS hood and smooth deck lid (which are both orig in their own right) which my buddy, who I bought it from, put on. He also had some rust repairs done around the back window, hence the primer. First time she has seen daylight in 9 years since I bought it on 2009. It has been off the road since 1984. This part of the project will be to simply get it running and driving. A few years ago our resident Curtis Osgood, aka Spiffav8, parted out his 67 Camaro as he was going full pro touring treatment. So I bought everything from bumper to bumper underneath which consisted of worked over 454 LS-6 (Old school) 5 speed TKO, 3.42 12 bolt posi, full hotchkis suspension including springs, shocks and sway bars, Lee steering box, disc brakes, etc... All of which ran exceptional in his car. The plan is to swap all of that into this. Interior is actually really nice. All factory deluxe and will just need a good cleaning for now. Looking forward to working on this together. Teach the kids the ins and outs of cars. Once the 55 is done the plan will be to go completely through it and make it a real nice car. In the meantime though we're gonna have some fun with it and make some memories!!

Well... James and I have been spending the past few nights working on the Camaro. I honestly don't know who is having more fun..... Just having such a good time working side by side with this kid. We have a great game plan and so far been executing it as planned. So far we've ripped out the old exhaust and the fuel tank.. Tonight we wrapped up tearing the front end down... Will be ripping the old frame, motor and trans out this weekend... And with a little luck be sliding the new (old) one under it very soon.....

Love the car! Everyone should have a "spare" 68 RS laying around Happy for guys that you get to make memories and pass along valuable skills...be sure take lots of pics of you guys working together. Some of the best posts on here are of people with their cars from "the old days" especially when they still have the same car! Good luck, have fun and keep the updates coming!

That is a great car. Some day your son will look back at some of the best times of his life.

Lol!! Yeah... I literally had this car fall in my lap 9 years ago... Was not looking for one but had plans one day to build a clone (with a few upgrades) to my first car I ever had. (pics below) The one that got away that I wish I never sold back in 1997... But it helped me buy first house and start a family... So no regrets.. The plan was to wait until the 55 was done. My boys are 13 & 11, and reality is the 55 is roughly 18-24 months out. By that time who knows if the boys will want to... So the wife talked me into getting it running. So here we are, with the wife's endorsement!!

James and I had a very productive weekend. Pressured washed the entire car top and bottom. Yanked out the rear suspension and rolled out the old subframe, motor and trans. The underside of this car is so clean. All original paint and no undercoating. A shame to cover it up but decided to shoot the whole underside and protect it for another 50 years. Made a road trip Saturday to see Jody who graciously stored all my junk for longer than I care to admit. Picked it all up and brought it home. Now it's time to get it all ready to slide it under. Going to take it all apart and give everything a fresh coat of paint, polish up the hardware and put it back together.
