Default hot rod magazine's pump gas drags

I just got back from the Pump Gas Drags. It was the coolest drag race Ive ever been to. The cars were outrageous. Most of the cars made the rigorous drive in the rush hour traffic without a problem. It was so nice to see 8 second 160mph cars riding down the road in traffic. They had to drive about 30 miles & every redlight we had to sit at was very, very long. Nobody overheated believe it or not. The winner ran a 8.48 in the semi's & a 8.52 in the finals. I saw one car run 162mph. This event was held at comp cams facility in Memphis. You should try to go next year. It was completely free to the spectators & Comp gave us a tour of their place as well.

here is the winner!

Default more pump gas drag pics

here is a shot of the staging lanes. Not all of the cars but you get the idea of what the cars were like.

Default pump gas drags

The red t/a is a 380 cubic inch motor w/ twin turbos. he ran low 9's all night long. The green Nova was what looked to be a barn find with a LS2 (i think) & twin superchargers. It had some tuning issues in qualifying but figured it out in the eliminations & ran in the 9's. I think it will be deadly next year after it gets sorted out!

Got a pic of an ugly green 72 Nova? Kurt Urban went 9.70's at 146 I believe with his dual Rotrex supercharged small block.

Ahhh, posted while I did. Joe Nova, pretty cool! It was actually a "field find", got it from a neighbor around the corner.

Here are some more of the cars entered. The last Camaro was actually just in the pits. It was so sweet. Anybody on here own that one? Very nice indeed.

hope you all enjoy the pics.

videos of the action will be on hotrod.com soon i'm sure.
