Default Chuckwalla Valley Raceway - Mar 22, 2014

SpeedVentures & ProAutoSports are co-hosting a track day at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway the weekend of Mar 22-23. I've run with both of these groups before, and it's always a great time. CVR is still quite new so the surface is in great shape. I'll be heading out Friday night and racing Saturday, and it'd be awesome to have some Lat-G support to fend off the late-models. This is an easy drive for both the So Cal and the AZ guys so no excuses

No first hand experience with the track but a friend who's a motorcycle trackday operator in the NW (motofit group) has been there twice and spoke highly of the layout and surface.

If you're on the fence I say it's definitely worth taking the plunge.

I've run with Speedventures, and they are a great group & I have heard nothing but great things about Chuckwalla..There's a slight chance I may make it there..

Accelerating is optional...........stopping is mandatory. Your car WILL stop one way or another.

You all missed out on a great event! Chuckwalla is smooth, fast, and fun. I camped out there Friday night, which was pretty cool by itself. Let me tell you, you can see a lot of stars when there is literally zero infrastructure around you. Woke up to the sound of racecars Saturday morning, and it was time to go racing! For some reason, I was running with a bunch of modified C6 vettes. Can't say I was faster than most, but I wasn't the slowest either so I was happy.

So the track itself:

One of the most fun corners on the track is 4 & 5. This is a fast, increasing radius sweeper. You hit the apex at 4, get back on the gas, hold the wheel in the same spot, and just throttle steer out to the edge and then back in to hit the apex at 5. By the time you hit 5, you're really moving. Unfortunately, that's followed by 6 & 7, which drive as a decreasing radius sweeper that will really punish you for going in too hot. I don't think I ever really got 7 done correctly. After that, 11 & 12 drive almost like a mini-corkscrew. Easy on the crest, but once you get on the slope and load the suspension, you can get on it. And that takes you into 13. That map says it's only 11* of banking. I don't have much to compare it to, but it feels like you're almost sideways. The banking works great for keeping planted - I was exiting at about 85 mph. Wheee!!

So after a great day of running with the 'vettes, I packed up my little trailer and hit the road back to Phoenix. If you ever get a chance to run CVR, I definitely recommend it!
