Default Rattle Can Self Etching

Is it safe to use rattle can self etching before spreading filler? Or should I spray it. I want to do some of the filler work myself to help prep for paint and I know rattle can is a big no for finish work but wasn't sure if it's the same for under the filler.

never etch prime under filler, or apply filler over etch primer. if metal is clean properly, putting filler on it is no issue. If your concerned use a epoxy primer on the bare metal areas, then sand with 120-180 then do filler work

woops I feel like an idiot, I knew it was epoxy no self etch but for some reason kept telling myself self etching. Thanks for the heads up, any reason epoxy in rasttle can would be an issue?

What type of "epoxy" is it? There are a few companies that make "epoxy" paints and primers in cans that are nothing more than lacquer.

There are also a few companies that are producing legitimate 2K epoxy primers in rattle cans. However they're $20 a pop.

Rattle cans are a 1 part system. Your not getting the hardener in a rattle can. An epoxy is a 2 part material so you'll have to spray it like normal.

there are a few rattlecan 2 part primers out there that are one time use. they have a pouch in the bottom with hardener in them that you have to puncture. then shake and spray..
