I was just gonig to post the same deal.

My problem is that I need a 110v unit since I don't have 220v to my garage and it would be expensive to get it there.

I do know you want an oil filled unit, and that a belt driven one is quieter as well.

I want the best, highest volume, 110v unit I can find.

Suggestions?

I just bought a screw Ingersol Rand and it is freakin awesome. It is also super quiet. But it is not cheap. Like 6000. But it puts out 38 cfm for my shop. You might look for a smaller screw type.

Steve,

You may not find what you are looking for in 110volt. You may want to look into a step up transformer. It may be less than running a dedicated 220 line. You'll have more choices in compressors.

I like both Ingersol Rand and Quincy Compressors. I have one at home and the other at work. Both have been trouble free. The IR has been in use for 11+ yrs and the Quincy 4+ yrs.

I also agree that you won't find a good compressor for 110v. All depends on what you're using it for. Die grinder, DA, impact, ratchet, blast cabinet, filling tires all have different air requirements.

I have a 60Gal/5HP 220V Craftsman "Pro" which is an upright, oil-less deal, it has given me very good service for about 8 years now (I'm just a weekend warrior, not a pro shop) but... it is AS LOUD AS THE HAMMERS OF HELL.

I am looking to upgrade mostly because I want something quieter, so I'm interested to hear about what's new out there and relatively quiet...

Default air

well

i recently looked at the stores who carry large compressors like (home depot) $1699 for the "big" 7.5 hp 2 cylinder compressor only like 24 cfm@ 125.didnt put out enough cfm to my liking to run my pressure pot blaster...
i had one built by a local comrpessor company...7.5 hp 4 cyl 240v puts out a over 30 cfm .runs @590 rpm and pumps up 80 gallon tank in a little over 3 minutes...i didnt want to have to upgrade later....i spent a little more than the big husky at the depot but will never over work the compressor .
its all based on what equipment your gonna use ....best thing you can get is the rotory screw...they put out alot of cfm but are costly....
my .02

It's just for my garage.. typical stuff like air ratchets, impacts, cutters. I don't do body work in there so it's not like I have to run a grinder.

Mainly I want something with moderate air delivery and not so loud as to wake the dead or make my ears bleed.

The step up isn't a bad idea.. I will as my electrician how much that would run.

This was the best one I had found.. at least is was belt drive and twin cylinder.. I "think" it's oil filled. and it can convert to 220V

Default Well..............

I use a Snap On Big Red, 80 Gallon, 6hp and it's pretty quiet. I use it in my shop for everything from my sandblasting to my paint guns and da's. So many to choose from so good luck with your purchase.
