Default 10blt. 8.2" posi question

A friend of mine has a 10blt. 8.2" in his 70 mailbu and he was thinking about adding posi to it. From what I can tell from driving it, it either has 2.56's or 2.73's. Here's where it gets interesting.....according to Eaton & Auburn, they do not make posi units for the 8.2" in a carrier numerically lower than 3.08s. So, I'm open to suggestions or referrals. I doubt he wants to swap his ring & pinion and I know he doesn't want a spool since he mostly cruises the car.

What should I do ?

Have you checked out the Trac-Loc? Maybe they have one for it.

I have the 8.2 in my car... i got the eaton posi with it and 3.73's

If you dont want to sacrifice cruising ability, just get a set of 3.23's or even 3.08's.

I know...I just wanted to assist my friend in being cheap as I think the switch from 2.73's to 3.08's is only 300 rpms...roughly...depends. I told him to start looking for a factory posi unit since I'm sure a few came with them.....

you wont even notice the difference from 2.73's to 3.08's. Well except in acceleration of coarse. I may still have a used 3.08 gear set if he's interested.

I'll ask him...what do you want for them? Are you sure they're for a 8.2" non-BOP? Thanks!

Default Auburn Vs Eaton

Hello to everyone. This is my first post.

On the topic of 8.2 BOP posi units.

Which unit is a better, the Auburn or the Eaton.

I am rebuilding my rear end and am going with 3.90 Richmonds, but I am not sure on which posi to buy?

I've ran both and I must say the Eaton was better. The Auburn is a cone posi and it will wear out and is not rebuildable. The Eaton uses clutches and is rebuildable.
I had an Auburn let go on a customers, we found that it wasnt serviced offen and it lead to its failure. Metal from cone wear circulated through the bearings and well its all no good now. They have some nice lockers out there too...air and centrifical type.

So how about those 3.08's? Still want to unload them?
