'69 Firebird Project SR71
Hi all, I'm on my 3rd 1st gen build after selling my '69 Camaro a couple of years ago. This one will be a daily driver for fun and will be built as such.
It's currently undergoing a frame-off restification. Not so much for concours, but to save the metal top to bottom, look respectable, and be safe and sound. Should be painted in a Month, maybe less.
Plans include:
Stock style exterior with 400 hood, possibly a hood tach, Jet Black paint
Stock style interior (Parchment), with custom stitched Cerullo seats in OEM vinyl, with the addition of perforation in the centers.
DSE 2" drop springs/leafs with Koni adj shocks, front swaybar
C5 hybrid front brakes, possibly hydroboost
18" wheels, either TTII's, Billet Rally II's, considering others...
Later on, maybe A/C and an overdrive.
The purpose of this car is to a)save it, b) drive it hard, c) enjoy the heck out of it and d) maintain it's identity and be easily reversible.
Here it was a month ago when I bought it...much has been done, will post updates as I get some better pics:

It has a freshly rebuilt #'s matching 350 and the original TH350 rebuilt with a shift kit behind it now and the pegleg 2.52 rearend. I'll probably add an Auburn posi and maybe 3.23's....still trying to be mindful of fuel consumption, since I'm building this one to be driven.
.030 overbored, Edelbrock Carb and intake, Crane cam, Hedman headers pretty much sums it up.
I've also found a set of Ram Air III heads that are going on it. The stock heads were just rebuilt, but I think it's the right move. It'll spec out a bit higher than the stock 350HO cars, around 350-375hp. Once the rest of the car is done, I'll probably look into a 400 stroker and EFI.
I just felt that it was appropriate to keep the Pontiac engine in it rather than doing a swap.

Updates! Sorry for the delayed response, I'm in the middle of planning my wedding too, the big day is Aug 18th! I'm in Minnesota, near Minneapolis.
Well, as these things go, there was much more work to do than anticipated, so it's taken far longer than I'd hoped. The car is still in the midst of the bodywork. It's getting there though!
I've made some changes, we added a '69 T/A rear spoiler and front fender heat extractors, I figured it needed to have the right look if it's going to be named 'SR71'. I was planning on a flat black stripe of some sort, but couldn't really come up with anything that I liked with the '400' style hood, so I think it'll just remain gloss black. I've had a few Ducati's with the flat style paint, 'Dark' they called it. It was alright, but after awhile, I just wished I could buff it out when seeing my buddies black Triumph all shined up.
It's mostly in epoxy sealer now and looking very good, nice and straight.
I have to find a new host for pics, when I do I'll upload some progress pics in the progress section.

Updates
Well, as these things tend to go, the build has taken much longer to finish, but it'll be getting wrapped up this Spring.
I'm going to start a Project thread to move this over from intros and show the progress.
Until I get that thread going, here's some teasers
