Exclamation 1st gen strip width help, ASAP!

Will be painting the Camaro 1st thing Sat morning 4/2/05.

I need to know what width your stripes are at the FRONT of the car. I also need to know if your strip (starting from the outer pin stripe) is the exact width of the cowl panel openings, or if the pin strip is boardered beyond that in relation to how wide they are at the nose.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know the width, I am not around to measure. But it goes outside the cowl. I attached a picture. I think the best way to go is to get a stencil kit to get them right. But I hope this pic helps show the cowl area.

IHMO...Don't even try to do the stripes without a stencil kit.

Unless you want the grief.

I have used the stencil kits 4 times now, they are worth every penny of the $59 or so that they cost. I get mine from Stencils and Stripes Unlimited.

I didn't even know those stencils were out there.

They guy I planned on working with has painted dozens and dozens of these camaros and lays his up by hand. The first time we did the car it was laid up by hand.

I know the front of the stripe is more narrow than the part near the windshield.

The guy I will be working with in the morning (too late to get the kit) has experience but we didn't go into detail about it. I wanted to make sure we were on the same page.

Looks like we will be winging it without it. These stripes are gold on the edge and black cherry in the middle. That adds complexity as well since it adds one more stage to the process.

Rob,

I started a thread here with a quick video of the paint job:

https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...=7265#post7265

The stripes actually went down fairly easy free hand. I was mistaken abou the stripe being more narrow in the front. I swear I measured a 69 Camaro a few years ago when I ran stripes on a V8 S-10 and it was about an inch more narrow at the front. I used the AIM info and found the stripes are about 14" wide front and back.
