How did you mount your radiator (bushing version)?

I had a recent incident with a PRC radiator that developed a bunch of cracks on each side between the tube/header interface. A racing buddy of mine told me that I need to mount it using rubber bushings.

These radiators (69 camaro / firebird version) utilize a flat plate on each side which mates to the core support. I have some black rubber sheet (roughly 3/16" thick) which I could use to make some squares, possibly several layers thick, at each mounting point.

Would this suffice or is there a better way to do this? What are you guys using?

I just ordered my PRC radiator and am planning to use tabs from my core support to tabs on the radiator with the "Vibration Dampening Kit" PRC offers. Hoping that will be a good mount but am curious what others have to say on the matter.





I'm not exactly sure how these install yet, but hoping it's logical when I get them.

I have always wondered, is it the vibration that takes them apart or is the radiator acting as a shear panel and front frame flex and core support flex are what kills them.

It seems like this is only a problem on radiators that bolt on. Chevelle type cradles never seem to have an issue.

I have seen many tab mounts on aluminum motorcycle gas tanks crack. Assumed it was always from the vibration.

Wellis, that looks like a legitimate kit, but I don't see how the back side rubber dampers would have any effect since 3 of the 4 bolts thread directly into the support (on my 69 firebird anyway), i.e. no nut is required on the back. It looks like you don't have a Camaro/Firebird, so your core support may be different.

After doing some research and dimensioning, I ordered the following Doorman rubber mounts from Summit:

I will post back once I get everything installed. Hopefully they will hold up to the temperature.

I checked at Home Depot and of course they didn't have anything worth a damn.

Harley Davidson makes rubber battery box mounts rubber in the middle and threaded studs on each end for a 7/16 nut. Might work in some applications.
